Culinary Artist Is Inspired By Japanese Art To Create Stunning Cookies

Cookies are something we can all agree are pretty amazing. No matter what kind you like, there’s probably a perfectly bite-size baked treat that will never fail to brighten your day.

But none might brighten your day more than the cookies made by Japanese artist and baker Chihiro Ogura, who runs a baking company called Antoplo.

She can create just about anything using a cookie as her canvas and icing as her paint, from traditional Japanese designs to tiny tubes of lipstick!

There are of course no shortage of talented cookie decorators, like the baker/graphic designer who creates rainbow-hued treats, or the cookie artist whose work makes cookies look like delicately embroidered handkerchiefs.

Ogura’s cookies are painstakingly embellished with royal icing, and her slightly muted colors make them effortlessly elegant, as well as almost too pretty to eat!

Check them out below and let us know which ones are your favorites!

Chihiro Ogura creates these incredible cookies using royal icing and avery steady hand.

She draws a lot of inspiration from Japanese art, including the gorgeous printed fabric like on this kimono-inspired cookie.

Some of her cookies are really just tiny, edible paintings. These flower images would have been inspired by traditional paintings.

And while the colors she uses aren’t necessarily bright, they’re vibrant and beautiful, and make for an unusual cookie.

And we’re glad that she records her creations on Instagram, because it would be a shame to simply eat them without snapping a photo!

Ogura also takes her inspiration from other art forms, too, like these “quilted” cookies that look like tiny squares of stitched fabric.

Other times, she turns cookies into all kinds of other edibles, like these bright little salads, using just icing!

Thanks to the endless versatility of royal icing, she can create just about anything, in any color or texture.

She also likes to create cookie-fied versions of items that you might not associate with cookies, like these jars of herbed olive oil.

Or even some asparagus!

Creating cookies that look like other foods also creates a strange fooling of the senses. Imagine biting into a cookie that looks like cheese!

But thanks to her incredible skill and patience, each cookie is a gorgeous little work of art.

And it’s not just food, either. These vintage-style telephone cookies are perfectly full of curlicues and flourishes.

And animals are always a great source of inspiration, too, like these whales.

And who could ever resist a penguin cookie?

The designs don’t even have to be that complex to be effective, either. These plump geese are plain white, but so cute!

But then, Ogura also likes to show off her skills with very complex, detailed work, too, like this realistic rooster.

You can see more of Ogura’s creations on her website and on Facebook and Instagram, where there’s always a new cookie to marvel over.
